(DC)  Join forager, author and instructor April Thompson for a unique workshop combining urban foraging, botanical art and cider tasting at ANXO—DC’s award-winning cidery and the first to operate in the nation’s capital since Prohibition. The workshop begins with a seated introduction to the fundamentals of safe and responsible foraging, followed by a short walk through the Brightwood neighborhood. Along the way, April will introduce you to a surprising variety of wild edible plants—including some growing right through the cracks in urban sidewalks—and share ideas for preparing and using them. You’ll also enjoy a welcome pour of limited-edition cider made with locally grown fruit, with additional drinks and foraged food items available for purchase from ANXO’s extensive selection. The workshop concludes with a hands-on introduction to cyanotyping (aka solar printing), one of the earliest photographic processes, along with a few other forms of botanical art. You’ll then create your own cyanotype using plants gathered during the walk. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, materials will be provided so you can complete your print at home.
