Plants and Voyaging Traditions of Hawaii

(DC) (US Botanic Garden) Join us for a celebration of culture, community, and connection highlighting the art and tradition of Hawaiian navigation and canoe voyaging in this drop-in program. Discover how ancient Hawaiians crossed vast ocean distances and the practices they carried with them, including experiences in lāʻau lapaʻau (traditional Hawaiian medicine), nā mea kanu ʻōiwi o Hawaiʻi (Native Hawaiian plants), hands-on activities with ʻohe kāpala (bamboo stamping), Hawaiian games, and a kuʻi ʻai (poi pounding) demonstration.
