(DC) (Rock Creek Conservancy) Join Rock Creek Park, Rock Creek Conservancy, Military Road School Preservation Trust (MRSPT), and the National Association for Colored Women’s Club (NACWC), and the Civil War Defenses of Washington to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Lincoln-Thomas Day. Lincoln-Thomas Day, initiated by the National Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs of America, was first observed on September 22, 1924, in various cities across the nation as a day honoring President Abraham Lincoln and Mrs. Elizabeth Thomas, a Brightwood resident known as the owner of Fort Stevens until her death on October 13, 1917. A virtual panel discussion will offer an opportunity to enjoy the celebration from afar or to get ready for the Saturday, September 21 in-park event.
