(DC) (Rock Creek Conservancy) Help the National Park Service scout for Christmas berry (Photinia villosa) and jetbead (Rhodotypos scandens) at Rock Creek Park! We will be hiking and recording any presence of these two shrubs along the Rock Creek Trail and Western Ridge Trail. Both of these shrubs were brought in for its ornamental beauty, but can become large, dense thickets that suppress native growth on the forest floor as they escape cultivation. Our goal is to search for and understand the extent of both of these species so we can assess potential responses.
