Native History in Rock Creek and Beyond (Virtual)
(DC) (Rock Creek Conservancy) Join Rock Creek Conservancy for an engaging discussion where archaeologists, historians, and Indigenous voices come together to share how the Native past of Rock Creek continues to inspire and inform the present and future. Tufts University professor of history Jim Rice will moderate. Archaeologist John Bedell will share what he has learned from years spent exploring the archaeological sites of Rock Creek Park. Parks & People Co-Founder Steve Coleman will share how the Native past of Meridian Hill has been both an inspiration and a lesson for the present and future of this dramatic hilltop, regarded as sacred ground since long before Europeans arrived. And, community organizer Sebi Medina-Tayac will share some of his story as an Indigenous Piscataway Washingtonian, including stories from the Native rights and environmental justice movements in the 20th and 21st centuries.
