Our instructors will go over the basics of bikes and bike handling skills in a supportive environment. These rides are great for people who have some riding experience\, but you don’t need to be a seasoned veteran. This is a perfect way to learn the basics of biking from certified bike coaches. We have a limited number of bikes and helmets available to borrow.

SUMMARY:Spring Forest Bathing and Tree Walk at Tregaron
DESCRIPTION:(DC) (Politics & Prose) Join Melanie Choukas-Bradley\, author of Wild Walking—A Guide to Forest Bathing Through the Seasons\, The Joy of Forest Bathing\, A Year in Rock Creek Park\, and several other nature books for a magical spring forest bathing walk through the enchanting Tregaron Conservancy\, a woodland garden tucked away in the midst of northwest Washington that has been restored and stewarded by a non-profit organization since 2006. We will meander under tall trees in autumn glory\, cross picturesque bridges over musical streams\, and climb stone steps through a century-old cultivated and wild woodland landscape reminiscent of “the secret garden.” \nShinrin-yoku\, or forest bathing\, began in the 1980s in Japan and it is rooted in the traditional Japanese reverence for nature. Forest bathing is a mindfulness practice akin to meditation\, yoga and tai chi that involves tuning in to the beauty and wonder of your natural surroundings with all of your senses.

SUMMARY:What Trees Remember: Climate\, Water\, and Change (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:(MD) (Natural History Society of Maryland) Trees are invaluable record-keepers of the past. Since their annual growth is intrinsically related to a combination of environmental factors\, tree ring data can be used like a Rosetta Stone. Dr. Karen King will demonstrate how her research in biogeography and climate change is informed by tree-ring data. We will focus on regional examples from western Maryland to learn what tree rings can tell us about temperature\, hydroclimate\, and ecological variability.

DESCRIPTION:(DC) (Smithsonian Natural History Museum) Artificial lights have become such common nighttime fixtures that we take them for granted. But what do brighter nights mean for people and wildlife?
